Propane fuels an RV’s heating and air conditioning systems, as well as its appliances, so you’ll always have hot water for showers, a stove to cook meals on, and cold drinks when you are thirsty.

Whether you’re camping or RVing, a propane camp stove or outdoor fryer can make a great dinner quickly and easily, whether you’re making burgers and hot dogs or doing a shrimp boil.

Nights can still be chilly in the summer, especially in higher elevations, so a propane tent heater is a must-have. Make sure your tent heater is from a manufacturer that has approved it for camping and includes an automatic shutoff feature in case it falls over or produces CO.

Propane Appliances & the Supply Chain

Get the most out of your home appliances

appliance efficiency north carolinaWhether it’s infant formula or computer chips, supply chain problems have been making it challenging for people and businesses.

As we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, these supply chain issues have lingered thanks to a variety of factors. We are seeing this in the propane appliance side of our business.

That’s why we recommend that if you are thinking about replacing your old propane appliances or adding propane appliances to your home, get in touch with us now to get on our list so we can secure the propane appliances you want.

We are in constant communication with manufacturers and our suppliers to keep an adequate supply of propane appliances and parts on hand. We also recommend that you have regular maintenance done on your propane appliances, so they last longer and reduce your risk of having to replace them after a breakdown.

We at Parker Gas appreciate your patience and understanding as we get through this challenging time.

What are the supply chain issues?

The supply chain is complex and can be disrupted by one or multiple factors. We have been seeing this at work for the past couple of years.

Last year, there were issues with supplying propane tanks and cylinders thanks to a shortage of steel as well as high demand for other tank components such as valves and gauges.

The changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic also impact the supply chain when it comes to propane appliances. Rising prices for materials, labor shortages, and shortages of everything from metals to microchips have all played a role.

Consumer demand was also dramatically affected by the pandemic. More people began to work at home and have embraced remote work as a permanent thing. The real estate market boomed as more people took advantage of low interest rates and being freed from having to live in expensive metropolitan areas for work to buy homes. One report said that 70% of homeowners had some kind of home improvement or renovation project done during the first two years of the pandemic.

What Are Propane Cylinders Used For?

Discover everthing propane tanks can do!

propane tank uses north carolinaThe most common association people have with propane cylinders is BBQ grills. But that’s only the beginning of the way they’re used in both personal and commercial applications!

Propane cylinders come in a range of sizes for this wide array of uses. Whatever size propane cylinder you have, you can refill it during regular business hours at any of the six Parker Gas locations.

Here are just some of the ways propane cylinders are used beside in grills.

Outdoor living

Propane cylinders work in several ways to make your back yard better. With a propane firepit or outdoor fireplace, you create comfortable and cozy spaces to relax with friends or with a good book. Propane deck and patio heaters let you dine and entertain outdoors even if it’s a bit chilly after the sun goes down.

Camping and RVing

Hit the road with propane! Propane cylinders offer a lot for both campers and RVers. Propane can provide heat for inside your RV, water heating, gas for cooking, and power for refrigeration and other small appliances. Whether you’re camping or RVing, propane cylinders can power camp grills, insect traps, and tent heaters.

Forklifts

Propane forklifts offer distinct advantages over forklifts powered by gasoline or electricity. Unlike gasoline forklifts, propane forklifts can be used both indoors and out because they don’t create dangerous emissions. They are also dramatically more powerful than electric forklifts, especially outdoors and on inclines. When a propane cylinder runs out of fuel, all you have to do is swap out the empty cylinder for a full one. Electric forklifts take eight hours or longer to recharge.

Landscaping

Whether your landscaping business does residences, commercial sites, golf courses or resorts, propane commercial mowers and other landscaping equipment offer many benefits. The lack of emissions is safer for your workers. Refueling is fast and easy with propane cylinders. And because there aren’t emissions, you have an edge with customers who are value environmental friendliness.

Farms

Farmers work hard. Propane works hard for farmers. With propane cylinders, you can power generators, forklifts, space heaters, and more. Propane flame weed control is safer for you and the environment, and you can get back to work in that field as soon as you’re done.

Hospitality and foodservice

Propane cylinders are used at restaurants and other outdoor dining venues for deck and patio heaters as well as firepits and outdoor fireplaces. Food trucks use propane cylinders for gas cooking.

However you’re using propane cylinders, you can get them quickly refilled at all six of Parker Gas’s locations! Contact us today to learn more.

Why Your Bills Are Going Up

Updated Feb 2022

Dear Valued Customer,

Once again, we’re seeing energy prices surge across the board. We know how painful that can be for our customers. It’s painful for us, as well.

What’s Going On?

Gasoline has risen more than a dollar more per gallon vs. a year ago. Natural gas prices have skyrocketed more than 150%. Crude oil prices have climbed above $100 per barrel, a level we haven’t seen in seven years.

The cost of electricity has not been spared either. Higher natural gas prices result in price hikes for wholesale electricity because of heavy reliance on natural gas-fired power plants.

What’s more, wholesale propane prices have hit their highest weekly average levels since February 2014. Read more about the factors that are driving today’s energy market.

What We’re Doing

People sometimes misunderstand how negatively all this impacts us, as well. We don’t make more money when prices rise like this; we make less. Think of it this way: it’s like when the cost of coffee, milk or oranges rises. It’s not the local grocery that is profiting. (That’s left to the Wall Street investors.) Our customers have a harder time paying their bills. They reduce expenditures. We need to tap into our lines of credit more. Our phones light up with questions. So the sooner energy prices drop, the happier we’ll be.

In the meantime, please talk to us about things we can offer to help you reduce your energy costs, or handle payments more easily. And if you are having trouble with your bills, please call us. We can generally work with you if you reach out before you fall behind.

Trust Us to Come Through for You

We’ve been in business for many years and have deep roots in the community. We have secure access to supply. We are doing everything possible to ensure we can deliver — even if other companies cannot — no matter the cost or difficulty we face.

We thank you for your understanding and we appreciate your loyalty. As we’ve done quite a few times in the past, we will get through these tough times by all working together.

Why Do I Need A Tank Monitor?

Protect yourself from a propane runout!

tank monitor app north carolinaLife can get busy, but if you don’t remember to regularly check your propane tank gauge levels, it can create a lot of hassle. If you run out of propane, the solution isn’t to simply have Parker Gas come over and fill your tank.

If you run out of propane in cold weather, that means your home doesn’t have heat. And any time of year, you’ll be taking cold showers.

Emergency delivery comes with an additional fee. A pressure test is required for your propane tank before it can be used again. You’re also responsible for paying for that. All of your propane appliances must have their pilots re-lit by a professional before they can be used. That’s another expense for you.

That’s why Parker Gas makes having propane easy with our wireless propane tank monitoring from TankWatch! Once it’s installed, we know precisely how much propane is in your tank any time of day or night. As soon as it reaches a set level, we’re notified and make a delivery.

Wireless tank monitoring is FREE for Parker Gas customers who use propane for whole-house heating and/or water heating. Our other customers pay a small fee.

You’ll also always know how much propane you have, thanks to the Parker Gas TankWatch app.

What you get with wireless propane tank monitoring

There are several reasons why having a wireless propane tank monitor is beneficial.

Having a wireless tank monitor is great if your propane usage is irregular. This refers to those who travel frequently or live away at least part of the year. If you have many visitors, your propane consumption may rise considerably more than you think, owing to an increased usage of your gas water heater, range, clothes dryer, and other appliances.

You won’t have to worry about a sharp increase in usage putting you at risk for a runout if you use our wireless propane tank monitoring.

Wireless tank monitoring is a great investment for those who have second homes and investment properties. You can keep an eye on the propane supply from anywhere your phone gets a signal.

We don’t make unnecessary deliveries of smaller quantities of propane because we know exactly when you require propane. You’ll only receive propane when you truly need it.

We can now deliver propane to more customers per day because wireless tank monitoring streamlines our distribution schedule. It also enhances our customer service by allowing us to be more responsive if any of our customers need an emergency propane delivery.

Propane For Your Agriculture Business

Key uses and benefits propane gives to farmers

propane for farms north carolina

Agriculture/agribusiness is the leading industry here in North Carolina, where there are more than 50,000 farms that use 8.5 million acres of land for produce including sweet potatoes and strawberries, livestock such as turkeys and hogs, and products like eggs and Christmas trees.

Our farmers work hard to provide all these items. Agricultural propane services from Parker Gas help them get that work done safely and efficiently while helping to improve their bottom line.

In addition to reliable bulk propane delivery, we also offer installation and service of both standard and custom propane tanks, tank vaporizers, frost protection equipment and support, crop drying support, forklift cylinder exchange, and propane autogas.

Propane Uses On The Farm

Here are some ways propane can help around your farm.

Heating. Propane provides energy-efficient heating, space heating, and water heating for barns, greenhouses, poultry houses, and other buildings on your farm, including your home. Also, since your propane supply is right there on your farm, you aren’t dependent on an outside utility for heating.

Irrigation. Propane engines provide clean-burning, efficient power for your irrigation system.

Generators. Did you know that power outages are twice as common now as they were only 10 years ago? Power outages can be costly on your farm in many ways. Propane standby generators keep your home, barns, poultry houses, and other outbuildings lit and safe. Unlike other fuels, propane does not degrade over time so it’s ready to use whenever you need your generators to kick on.

Forklifts. Propane forklifts are not only more powerful and efficient than electric forklifts, but also can operate both indoors and outside thanks to extremely low emissions. Our forklift cylinder exchange helps ensure you’ll always have the fuel your forklifts need.

Crop drying. Propane crop dryers let you keep more of your yield that would be lost to rot if left to dry outdoors. They’re also up 50% more efficient than crop dryers powered by other fuels.

Frost protection. Protect your crops from a cold snap with propane-powered frost protection equipment. They keep your crops safe without the risks posed by gasoline spills.

Weed control. Propane flame weed control is vastly superior to herbicides in all ways. It does not damage soil or get into the groundwater as herbicides can. It is extremely effective. You and your workers aren’t exposed to harsh chemicals. Also, you can get back to work in the field right away rather than having to wait as you do with herbicides.

Vehicles and equipment. Just about all your farm’s vehicles and equipment —tractors, delivery trucks, mowers, and more — can run on clean-burning, efficient propane and propane autogas. Propane engines are cheaper to operate per mile, and, because of that clean-burning, need less maintenance and fewer repairs than gasoline or diesel engines.

Parker Gas has been providing propane delivery and service to North Carolina farms for more than 60 years. Put that experience to work at your farm and become a Parker Gas customer!
